Melissa

My name is Melissa, Mel for short. I'm a 18 year old, young aspiring graphics artist. I come from a hole of a town called Ingham in Queensland Australia. Wouldn't even surprise me if you ever find it on the map. I love graphic design, websites, internet, writing and my friends. I loath those who steal, lie and take credit for other people's hard work, so please be aware of that before you steal from me.

By using this tutorial you will turn a black and white image into a fully coloured image. I am not going to show you a picture to do, as this tutorial is best suited for you to just do step-by-step with your own image.
  1. Add a new layer and fill it with #c69c6d and set it to color.
  2. Duplicate that layer and set it to soft light.
  3. Flatten all layers (merge all).
  4. Adjust >> color balance >> color balance, and use these settings: Cyan/Red: 0 Magenta/Green: -31 Yellow/Blue: 0
  5. Press ok.
  6. Select the freehand selection tool and set the feather to 1.
  7. Select the whites around the eyes and the teeth.
  8. Keep the selections active and create a new raster layer.
  9. Using the flood fill tool, fill the selections with #ffffff.
  10. Adjust >> Hue and Saturation >> Hue/Saturation/Lightness. Tick colourize and press ok.
  11. Lighten the opacity of the layer until it is at appropriate colour for the whites of the eyes.
  12. Now click back on the background layer.
  13. Select the eyes (not the whites just the middle) with the freehand selection tool.
  14. Create a new raster layer, and choose a colour you wish to use for the eyes and fill the selection.
  15. Right click on the layer >> properties >> Softlight >> press ok.

  17. Click the eye 3 times.
  18. Use the same settings with the dodge tool and click twice.
  19. Using the freehand selection tool, select the lip with a feather of 2.
  20. Subtract from the lips anything that you do not want coloured.
  21. Got to Adjust >> Colour Balance >> Colour Balance. Play with the colours until you get the colour you wish to have.
  22. Using the freehand selection tool, roughly outline the hair (don't select right to the roots of the haird, select slightly before).
  23. Go to Adjust >> color balance >> color balance, and play with the setting suntil you reach your desired hair colour.
  24. Using the freehand selection tool, select the parts you wish to erase from the hair.
  25. Selection >> Modify >> Feather >> set to around 20 pixels (best to trial and error) >> press ok >> hit delete key as many times until desireable.
  26. Doing eyes shadow is simple, just select the area, and go to Adjust >> color balance >> color balance, and play with the settings.
  27. Make a new layer and set the foreground colour to the colour you wish to have for the cheek bones.
